About the Client

The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) is one of ten agencies within the Department of Transportation and its primary focus is intermodal transportation. Its mission is to enable the safe, reliable, and efficient movement of people and goods for a strong America, now and in the future.

The Challenge

Segue was tasked with providing software development support alongside the FRA’s Office of Information Technology. This office plans, develops, and administers Information Technology, Administrative Services, and Productivity Improvement Programs to support efficient and effective operations while improving productivity. This work required implementing and supporting new solutions within the existing framework and using open source software such as Java and .NET to tag specific locations where various types of railroad incidents occurred.

The Solution

To implement this solution, Segue augmented a fillable pdf form used to document the incident by implementing a dynamic link to map the incident location. Segue then created web service calls to retrieve latitude and longitude values for the submitted locations. This information was then passed along and processed through various systems using API’s to provide the required location data and map layers.

Segue worked within the FRA to provide support to DOT and FRA Chief Information Officer (CIO), Deputy CIO, Web Program Manager, eCollaboration Team Leader, Webmaster, Records Management Officer, and selected Program Office staff. The tasks performed on this contract enabled full lifecycle support of the DOT/FRA internal and external web environments, and FRA’s electronic Records Management Program.
